FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Focus Strategic Communications Inc. holds reception to launch commemorative edition book
A reception was held this evening at the prestigious Arts and Letters Club of Toronto to launch the commemorative edition of the pioneering book Wayfinding: People, Signs, and Architecture by Paul Arthur and Romedi Passini.
This attractive hardcover book, which has been out of print for several years, has been reissued by Focus Strategic Communications Inc. to mark the passing of Paul Arthur in May 2001 and the tenth anniversary of its first publication by McGraw-Hill (in 1992). It has since become the standard on the subject for architects and graphic designers worldwide.
Architect and environmental psychologist Romedi Passini, who came from Montreal to attend the event, said a few words about his work on Wayfinding and was available to autograph copies of this collectable keepsake.
Friends, families, and colleagues of Paul Arthur, including his widow, Dinah, were present to talk about him, the book, and how everyone has benefited from his wayfinding breakthroughs and his need to create a non-verbal communication system that would bridge cultural differences and act as a barrier-free language. Arthur, who coined the terms “signage” and “wayfinding,” is the only graphic designer appointed to the Order of Canada, in 1993.
Focus Strategic Communications Inc., which has been in business since 1988, is a Canadian book publisher, producer, and packager of non-fiction books. The company is the only Canadian member of the American Book Producers Association in New York. Wayfinding: People, Signs, and Architecture is Focus’s first published book and the first in a series of books by the late Paul Arthur, to be published in the near future.
