Pattison Outdoor Launches Pilot Program for World’s First Full-Color Digital-Ink Billboard from magink display technologies
Toronto, Canada April 2, 2003 -- magink display technologies Inc., developer of the world’s first full-color digital-ink billboard, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Pattison Outdoor, the largest out-of-home advertising company in Canada, to participate in a pilot program of the groundbreaking outdoor advertising technology.
As part of this agreement, a 3m x 6m billboard had been erected at Pattison’s headquarters to showcase the technology. This pilot program in Canada follows the launch of magink’s pilot program in the U.K., announced in mid-March. Pilot programs in the U.S., Korea, Japan, and Israel will follow.
Requiring little electricity, digital ink billboards are highly visible in sunlight and can be changed instantaneously based on factors such as viewer reaction, time of day, location, sales results or current events. The displays can be networked together and controlled via magink’s networking solution for digital displays (NSDD), and provide outdoor media companies with new revenue streams, including the ability to sell space by day-part.

magink’s digital-ink displays, manufactured under an agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Corp., the creators of Diamond Vision, reduce printing and manpower expenses associated with conventional outdoor advertising. The high-resolution display offers advertisers a far more versatile creative canvas. Production and installation costs are also curtailed by eliminating the need for paper or vinyl.
