Gerber Unleashes Power of New OMEGA™ 2.0 at ISA - Latest Software Release Offers Hundreds of Enhancements to Improve User Productivity
LAS VEGAS Gerber Scientific Products Inc. has set the stage for unprecedented performance and productivity among GERBER EDGE® and GERBER MAXX™ 2 users with a powerful new version of its popular OMEGA sign design and production software.
Unveiled at International Sign Expo, The Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, April 3-5, 2003, OMEGA 2.0 contains an enhanced feature set developed in direct response to customer input and requests, according to Dana Goodale, director of customer development, Gerber Scientific Products.
“OMEGA 2.0 represents the culmination of detailed feedback, survey results and wish lists solicited from OMEGA customers,” he said. “Our goal was to design a more stable and robust program filled with practical tools to improve functionality and output, as well as overall shop efficiency. OMEGA 2.0 offers the agility, control and intuitive features to accomplish that objective. As a result, it is easier than ever for graphics professionals to generate vibrant, vivid colors and smooth output.”
Key additions to OMEGA 2.0 include:
- Enhanced output features, such as new multiple spot color gradient fills, enhanced GerberColor Spectratone™ with different top and base tints, Gerber Tone™ STC photo halftone for the EDGE®, and new ImageRIP™ print-to-cut capabilities.
- More job and resource management capabilities, including improved font management, a new ThumbPrint utility that allows printing of .PLT thumbnail images, and a new auto-save routine.
- New design features, including dramatically enhanced detail edit (node editing) capabilities, the ability to copy text and smart edit it, new lock object and duplicate commands, improved small text spacing and sizing flexibility, and a new text change case capability.
As with previous OMEGA versions, 2.0 drives all Gerber output devices the MAXX 2
and EDGE thermal color imaging systems, Gerber Jetster™ wide-format inkjet imaging system, Gerber enVision™ and ODYSSEY™ cutting plotters, and Sabre™ routers with technology-specific
improvements to ensure the highest performance of each, noted Goodale.
“No other software program drives Gerber devices better,” he declared. “When it comes to output quality, throughput, spot color support and productivity, nothing beats OMEGA 2.0. Our new release forms the heart of Gerber’s design and production system, and we’re very pleased to provide the industry with such a reliable, flexible and seamless software product.”
He continued, “Our extensive beta-test program is revealing that the stability and features of OMEGA 2.0 are highly valuable to both OMEGA users and customers transitioning from GRAPHIX ADVANTAGE® software.
“These are actual OMEGA 2.0 beta site quotes:
- ‘I can’t live without my 2.0!’
- ‘I love 2.0.’
- ‘That node edit is nuclear. You can do anything you want. It will make life a lot simpler.’
- ‘I am working on layouts and text for real estate signs, and I gotta tell ya, you just don’t know how GREAT it is to be able to paste and edit text. It saves time, grief and aggravation, and also the work surface is much less cluttered.’
- ‘EVERYTHING seems to work great! I like the improvements.’
- ‘I absolutely love the ability to change the tint on Spectratone colors.’
- ‘The Adobe® Illustrator® export is something I use heavily. We find it to be much more stable. We are experiencing no problems so far exporting to AI.’”
OMEGA 2.0 is compatible with Windows® XP, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows 98. It is available in three levels: Cut Light (CL), Cut Print (CP) and Cut Solution (CS). Additional details concerning OMEGA 2.0 can be found on Gerber Scientific Products’ web site at www.gspinc.com.
