Lutz Recieves International Sign Association’s Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award
April 3, 2003 (Alexandria, VA) Cal Lutz, former Chairman of the Board of the International Sign Association (ISA), was presented the Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award during the general session of the recent International Sign Expo in Las Vegas, Nev., April 2-5, 2003.
"Cal's leadership and vision have been a great asset to the industry as a whole," said ISA Chairman of the Board Bob Wallace. "His diligent efforts, commitment, perception, and knowledge have resulted in huge steps forward in ISA government relations efforts from which we are now realizing tangible results. These efforts will benefit our industry for many years to come, and are creating a positive perception of our industry in the business community.”
The Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award is an annual award given to an ISA member who demonstrates outstanding dedication and service to the association.
“What a great honor,” said Lutz. “I only did what many of my friends and colleagues within ISA have done for years: serve the industry to the best of my ability. This award being named after a true mentor of mine, Kirk Brimley, makes it more humbling.” Lutz added, “I was especially touched that, unbeknownst to me, my wife arranged for my son and daughter, their two spouses and three of my four grandchildren to be in Las Vegas and at the award ceremony.”
Lutz served on the ISA Board of Directors from 1994 until 1997, and was elected to the executive committee in 1998. He served as Chairman of the Board in 2000. He has served on the boards of the Associated Sign Industry of Ohio and the Sign Industry Employer’s Association. Additionally, he has served two terms as president of the Midwest Sign Association, and has been active in the Central Ohio Sign Contractors Association and the World Sign Associates.
Lutz is the president of DaNite Sign Company, Inc., where he started working part-time after graduating high school. In 1980 he purchased the company from his former employer.
ISA is a 2,200 member organization composed of manufacturers, users, and suppliers of on-premise signs and sign products produced by more than 40,000 employees in all 50 states and 69 foreign countries. ISA exists to support, promote and improve the $30 billion-a-year sign industry, which sustains the nation’s nearly $3 trillion-a-year retail industry.
