ISA Technical Director To Chair UL 879 Working Group
Alexandria, VA (June 9, 2003) Muhammad Khan, director of technical resources for the International Sign Association (ISA) was recently appointed chair of a working group reviewing Underwriters Laboratory (UL) standard 879.
“The purpose of this working group is to examine blackout paint characteristics, in order to determine if the paint can have an effect on the neon sign,” said Khan. “Once we determine if there is an effect, we can go on to the next steps of addressing any issues that may arise.”
Khan is a member of the Standards Technical Panels (STP) that review UL 879: Standard for Electrical Receptacles for Gas-Tube Signs and UL 48: Standard for Safety of Electric Signs, and he recently attended the meetings to ensure that the industry’s perspective is represented as UL develops safety and performance standards affecting the sign industry.
Khan has also been asked to serve on a working group reviewing the temperature requirements of components covered in UL 879. Additionally, Khan was selected to participate on the working group examining revisions to UL 48.
ISA is 2,200 member organization composed of manufacturers, users, and suppliers of on-premise signs and sign products produced by more than 400,000 employees in all 50 states and 69 countries.
ISA exists to support, promote and improve the $30 billion-a-year sign industry, which sustains the nation’s nearly $3 trillion-a-year retail industry.
