X-Rite Introduces New AcuGloss™ Line of Portable Gloss Meters

Grandville, Mich — September 22, 2003—X-Rite, Incorporated (NASDAQ:XRIT), today introduced AcuGloss gloss meters, a fast, accurate line of portable instruments designed to help customers ensure uniform gloss appearance on inks, coatings, paints, papers, plastics, waxed, and metal surfaces. AcuGloss also helps customers control the surface integrity of products through precise measurement of gloss percent levels.

“Even if exact color is controlled, gloss surfaces can cause color appearance differences in the final production,” says Brian Teunis, Category Director, Color and Appearance. “With AcuGloss, customers can measure gloss surfaces with unmatched precision, eliminating appearance mismatch and reducing material costs.”

Four Information Modes

AcuGloss can monitor gloss information in four ways:

Basic: AcuGloss includes a basic mode for simple evaluation of gloss and on-screen display of the results.
Sample: On-board standards and sample storage capability help ensure each measurement meets pre-defined gloss requirements.
Statistics: Calculate and display running statistics of measurements for later recall or reporting.
Continuous: Make continuous automated measurements at pre-determined intervals.

Two Models
AcuGloss is available in two models with geometries that meet specific applications.

AcuGloss 60: Standard 60˚ measurement angle for printing, packaging, overprint coatings and related applications.

AcuGloss TRI: Standard three-angle simultaneous measurement at industry standard 20˚, 60˚, and 85˚ for paint, plastics and industrial coatings applications.
