FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wasatch Transforms Color with New SoftRIP Version 5.0
(October 9, 2003 - Salt Lake City, UT) - Wasatch Computer Technology has announced the beta release of Wasatch SoftRIP Version 5.0, with production release scheduled for early November 2003. The new version presents users with major architectural improvements creating a series of new color and workflow master screens. A flatter interface with several innovative new features will greatly benefit both existing and new users.
This release enhances usability and function in several key areas. A simple "Imaging Configuration" screen is now the centerpiece of
the Wasatch workflow. It combines all color-related printer and profile controls in one location, increasing ease of use and greatly
reducing setup time. This is a benefit for beginner users who now can get great "out of the box" color with one "plug-and-play" selection.
Advanced users and those creating their own ICC profiles will appreciate the powerful tools easily accessed from the Color Transforms screen. This master color flow chart straightens out the maze of profiles,
rendering intents, halftone properties, printer calibrations and ink limiting manipulations, showing users exactly how color flows from
file to printed page. Change any color selection and the flowchart dynamically changes to reflect the impact on the entire color management process. Those new to ICC Color management can learn a lot from the graphical representation in this Wasatch exclusive.
Improvements to queue management are equally extensive. The new Master Queue acts as a command station, letting users manage both RIP and print queues for all printers from a single location. Checking job status, changing priorities, moving jobs between queues, and changing set up options are now only a click away. This version of SoftRIP actually
lets users drag and drop a file from their desktop straight into the RIP queue redefining the standard for fast workflow. The active imaging configuration for the selected print unit is automatically applied to ensure color quality, and the file is processed with a single click of the mouse.
In addition to the new architecture, users will find several features to improve their workflow and color. An archiving feature has been
created giving users the flexibility to backup RIP'd files from their print queue with drag and drop ease. Linearization support has been
enhanced to simplify the smoothing and correcting of curves, and a more intelligent ink-limiting feature has been created to improve the color gamut of hard to profile media and to support more accurate color
profiling. Ease of use has been improved with a nudging feature that provides users fine tuning control over crop boxes and print layout. Version 5.0 also has dozens of new hotkeys, icons, and other shortcut options to give users a variety of alternatives for speeding operations.
Between the flatter, more intuitive architecture and the new features, Wasatch SoftRIP version 5.0 will add real value to any user's printing
workflow. "I believe this release will make both our existing and new customers much more productive," says Vice President Jay Griffin.
"Increased productivity generally leads to increased profits, I love helping our customers that way!"
