Internet-Based Sign Structural Element Estimating Tool Now Available

NASHVILLE, TN ­ Sign Management Consultants, Inc., has developed a simple and easy-to-use system for selecting the primary structural elements of free-standing signs. Sign-a-mateWEB™ is an affordable, Internet-based computer application that allows small sign shops, estimators and designers to determine sign column and foundation requirements simply by entering the basic dimensions of the sign.

The idea for Sign-a-mateWEB™ was inspired by the popular SIGN-A-MATE, a circular chart estimating tool that dates back to 1977. The SIGN-A-MATE allowed estimators to select column and foundation sizes by simply knowing the sign’s area and the height to the center of wind pressure.

Sign-a-mateWEB™ is a computerized version of the SIGN-A-MATE that has been radically updated and extended. Although it uses the same methods and standards that structural engineers use in sizing the columns and foundations, Sign-a-mateWEB™ requires even less computation on the user's part than its predecessor. The results are specific to the dimensions and wind speed conditions entered for a particular sign, and can be generated in a matter of minutes by accessing the application over the Internet via a web browser. The results produced by Sign-a-mateWEB™ can be saved or printed as a formatted PDF document.
