MIDVALE, UT, January 8, 2004 -- Onyx Graphics has announced the Onyx RIPeXtend™ module for Onyx workflow 6.0 software products. It extends the capabilities and reach of professional print providers to streamline the approval process by enabling automated soft proofing. The Onyx RIPeXtend module also supports electronic sign and display systems, giving shops the ability to offer their customers cross-media advertising and display solutions from a single job file.

The Onyx RIPeXtend module functions as a printer driver in Onyx RIP-Queue, the company’s core technology that includes a common Raster Image Processor (RIP) engine, print queue and color management system. It can be used with Onyx workflow 6.0 products including the market-leading Onyx ProductionHouse™, Onyx PosterShop®, and Onyx Proof™ software packages.

Automate Soft Proofing to Streamline Approval Process
With the Onyx RIPeXtend module and the Onyx In-House Proofing Workflow option, professional print providers can set up automatic job submission and soft proofing systems with their clients. Using these two modules, the job file is submitted by the client to the print shop online. The print shop receives the file, opens and RIPs the job, and the Onyx RIPeXtend module generates a soft proof preview of the job that can be emailed back to the client or uploaded to an FTP site. The preview is an exact color replica of the job waiting to print, so the client can review and approve the job on-screen in a matter of minutes. The Onyx RIPeXtend module will automatically place the RIPped file into the queue for printing, in anticipation of a “go ahead” from the client, further increasing throughput by eliminating this manual step. Soft copy proofing speeds throughput by reducing the time it takes to obtain customer approval for prints. It also reduces the turnaround time if a problem is found, such as missing or incorrect fonts. The client reviewing the print can email changes or a new file on the spot. In addition to time, soft copy proofing also saves material and overhead costs as neither a hard copy print nor customary overnight shipping charges are required.

Support for Electronic Display Systems
The Onyx RIPeXtend module can be used to transmit any job over the Internet and generate scaled images for electronic sign and display systems. This capability gives professional print providers another revenue opportunity by enabling them to offer this service to their clients with minimal additional costs. Since the same job file can be used for both print and electronic display, the print shop can profit from additional services while maintaining the same familiar workflow.

Web Proofing
With the Onyx RIPeXtend module, print shops can create on their own web sites HTML views of their clients’ jobs as an alternative proofing method. Print shops then direct customers to their web sites to view the soft proofs. This method enables print shops to promote specials and advertise upcoming sales or new services to these customers. Web proofing further streamlines the approval process by enabling print providers to work with their clients at any time, anywhere.

The Onyx RIPeXtend module is available as a standard printer driver to Onyx ProductionHouse 6.0, Onyx PosterShop 6.0 and Onyx Proof™ 6.0 software products. Customers owning a license for any of these three products may obtain this module from their local dealer. It is available as an option for all other Onyx workflow 6.0 products.
