Onyx Graphics' Max Derhak Named to Chair ICC Architecture Working Group
Midvale, UT -- Onyx Graphics announced today that Max Derhak
has been named as Chair of the Architecture Working Group of the
International Color Consortium (ICC). Derhak is a Senior Software Architect
at Onyx Graphics with responsibilities relating to color, image processing,
halftoning, and workflow. Onyx Graphics has been an ICC member company
since 1997.
The Architecture Working Group addresses issues relating to ICC
architecture. Specific goals are to document the current color device
interaction architecture, including defining the baseline for further work
and internal usage, and to investigate and propose improvements and
alternatives to the current architecture to address identified issues.
"There is interest within the ICC of exploring new areas where color
management can be applied," said Derhak. "Addressing the needs of new
markets will require architectural changes. Additionally, documentation of
the current ICC architecture needs to be strengthened. It is my desire to
help the Architecture Working Group address the current and future needs of
technologies that make use of ICC architecture."
The ICC was established in 1993 by eight industry vendors to create, promote
and encourage the standardization and evolution of an open, vendor-neutral,
cross-platform color management system architecture and components. The
outcome was the development of the ICC profile specification, which is
widely used throughout the digital color display and printing industries.
Device profiles can be used to translate color data created on one device
(e.g. an RGB monitor) into the native color space of another device (e.g. a
CMYK inkjet printer).
ICC profiles have enabled Onyx Graphics to develop and bring to market its
color proofing tools, Onyx ProofCenter software and the Onyx RIPeXtend
module. Onyx ProofCenter software enables users to generate color-accurate
press proofs from supported inkjet printers. The Onyx RIPeXtend module,
used with Onyx workflow 6.0 products, enables soft copy proofing on the
client's monitor, which speeds throughput by reducing the time it takes to
obtain client approval for prints.
Derhak has been an employee of Onyx Graphics since 1991. He has been
instrumental in helping Onyx Graphics pioneer the development of large
format image reproduction systems using electrostatic, photographic imaging
and inkjet technologies. Derhak holds a bachelor¹s degree in computer
science from the University of Utah and is currently working on his master¹s
degree in imaging science from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
