GretagMacbeth Acquires Graphic Intelligence Agency

GretagMacbeth is forming a new global Professional Services business unit and on May 12th, 2004, announced that it had signed a letter of intent to acquire the Graphic Intelligence Agency (GIA) to become the core and ongoing leadership of this group.

The decision to keep the Graphic Intelligence Agency name represents the continuation of its well-established autonomous and vendor-neutral position in the marketplace. “This independent business unit will deliver consistent, high-quality support and training solutions wherever color or color workflows are present, and will serve all hardware and software platforms in the graphics arts industry,” said Tom Vacchiano, president and CEO of Amazys Holding AG (GretagMacbeth).

Eric Harsh and Will Holland, co-founders and principals of the GIA since 1997, will continue to lead and develop the business, which will remain headquartered in Akron, Ohio. “GretagMacbeth is giving the GIA the opportunity to achieve our global objectives,” stated Harsh, “By permitting us to continue building on the success of our business model and distinctive identity.”

The acquisition by GretagMacbeth will give GIA the opportunity to achieve goals related to extending their geographic presence:

  • providing consistent, high-quality color training worldwide
  • creating an industry-wide, global, color support center that addresses color management issues in all major languages
  • offering GIA’s advanced digital marketing and training development services to international customers in new markets

Over the past few months, the GIA has announced new collaborations with a range of hardware manufacturers, RIP companies and media suppliers. These relationships and others like them will progress to provide GIA’s training, support and interactive development services to a broader range of customers. GIA has also developed a network of color consultants and dealers to market and deliver their service products, a practice that will now extend through GretagMacbeth’s new Professional Services business unit.
