Finalists Announced for the Fifth Annual Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards
WEST HOLLYWOOD — Narrowing down the competition to a selection of 43 artistic, engaging and eclectic billboards, the 2004 Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards Judging Committee recently announced the finalists for the Fifth Annual Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards. Winning billboards will be named at the event, taking place Wednesday, July 7, 2004 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the House of Blues, 8430 Sunset Boulevard, in West Hollywood
The Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards recognize and encourage quality and creativity in places where billboard presence is a positive and exciting part of the landscape, as they are on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood and Times Square in New York. These famous areas are showplaces for more than 100 of the advertising industry’s most elaborate, eye-catching and eccentric billboards.
This year’s finalists were selected based on artistic merit, ingenuity and execution. The 2004 finalists for the following categories are:

Consumer Goods & Services: “Napster” by MacDonald Media on Viacom; “The Faster XJ” by Y’s R/The Media Edge on Clear Channel; “Land Shark” by Out of Home Pitch on Regency.

Television: “Cooler” by Lions Gate Films on Regency; “Barbarians at the Gate” by Horizon Media Inc. on Regency; “Green Light” on BBDO/OMD on Viacom.
Public Service: “Get Lit” by Glyphix, Inc. on Viacom; “Declawing is a Big No No” by The Paw Project on Regency; “Stop the Sores” by Better World Advertising on Clear Channel.

Additional awards will be given for Billboard of the Year and Tall Wall of the Year.
This year’s panel of judges include: Lynzie Baldwin, Director, Art in Motion at USC School of Fine Arts; Inez Bush, owner of Gramercy Partners; Barbara Drucker, Chair of UCLA Department of Art; Nancy Fletcher, President of Outdoor Advertising Association of America; Mimi McCormick, Director of Operations at MOCA; Mikio Osaki, Chair, Advertising Department of Art Center College of Design; Tim Tompkins, President of Times Square Alliance and Jeff Vance, Designer of Sunset 8335.

More than 200 advertising and business leaders are expected to attend the Billboard Awards gala, which honors advertising companies for their artistic achievement in various categories of billboard advertisements.
The Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards 2004 is presented by the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by many local businesses.
