Design Winner of SGIA’s 2005 Safety Poster Contest Announced

FAIRFAX, VA -- Winston Zhang, a graphic artist at Wheat Buckley and His Talking Horse Screenworks Inc. (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), has been named this year’s winner of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s annual safety poster design competition.

This is the second year that Wheat Buckley, an SGIA-member since 1992, has come up with the winning designs for this competition.

Designs submitted for this year’s competition incorporated one of two safety themes: “Before You Repair It Lock It and Tag It!” and “Keep Your Back Healthy Lift with Care!” Artists were encouraged to submit design entries for either or both themes.

The winning designs were selected as part of an open design competition held by SGIA to give Association members and non-members an opportunity to show off their artistic talents. SGIA’s Safety Poster Committee members chose the winning designs from those submitted by an extremely talented pool of graphic artists.

In addition to Zhang, honorable mention goes to George McKim, Graphics Director for Product Identification, Inc. (Durham, NC), and to Anil Lai of Vancouver, British Columbia.

“Among the many tangible tools SGIA offers, our safety posters are a popular service distributed every year to members around the world,” said SGIA Government Affairs Associate Danielle Waterfield.

SGIA’s newest safety posters will be produced and distributed internationally to all members in January 2005.

SGIA Is Leading a New Generation of Imaging Professionals—“Specialty imaging” comprises digital imaging, screen printing and the many other imaging technologies SGIA members use, including those they’ll tap in the future. These are the imaging processes and technologies employed to create new products and to enhance existing products including point-of-purchase displays, signs, advertisements, garments, containers, and vehicles.

For more information about any aspect of SGIA’s safety services for members of the specialty graphic imaging industry, contact Danielle Waterfield at Association headquarters. Telephone: 888.385.3588. E-mail: dwaterfield@sgia.org.
