PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 20, 2004

Certified PDF Profiles for Pre-flighting to Launch at SGIA Imaging Symposium, Brussels

Ton Rombout, Editor-in-Chief, SignPro Europe, will introduce “certified PDF” during the inaugural SGIA Imaging Symposium (Brussels, September 10-11).

The new pre-flighting software was developed by Enfocus Software with input from members of ZSO, the Dutch screen printing and sign association; and support from FESPA, the Federation of European Screen Printers Associations. While Rombout presents the profiles to the Symposium attendees, a ZSO representative will be in Stockholm to simultaneously present them to the FESPA General Assembly.

PDF profiles, specific to each printing technique, will establish a standard for the exchange of data between specialty imagers and their clients. For example, when a screen printer or large-format digital printer receives a PDF file, the profiles will automatically verify whether it fulfills quality requirements and will alert users to problems immediately. Certified PDF records all changes to the file, who makes them and when.

The first SGIA European Imaging Symposium will combine networking, manufacturers’ open houses and educational sessions focusing on issues important to European printers and sign makers. The September agenda includes networking opportunities, tours of nearby VUTEk and Thieme/Agfa facilities, and talks about the marketplace, Certified PDF, color management, environmental impacts and EU regulations.

The Symposium will take place at the Hilton Brussels City Hotel, Belgium. Networking events begin 9 September, programming 1011 September. For more information and to register, visit the SGIA Imaging Symposium Web site at www.sgia.org/brussels. SGIA members will receive a discounted registration price for this event.

SGIA Is Leading a New Generation of Imaging Professionals—“Specialty imaging” comprises digital imaging, screen printing and the many other imaging technologies SGIA members use, including those they’ll tap in the future. These are the imaging processes and technologies employed to create new products and to enhance existing products including point-of-purchase displays, signs, advertisements, garments, containers, and vehicles.
