New VUTEk® UltraVu® II 3360 Increases Print Capacity and Aides Image Options' Continued Growth
Images Options Inc., of Orange County, California has installed it's fourth
VUTEk® printer, a new VUTEk® UltraVu® II 3360 to increase the print capacity
of the high-end exhibition graphics specialist. The addition of its new
three-meter UltraVu® II 3360, with its greater productivity and increased
functionality, has enabled Image Options to further enhance service to
clients, and produce exhibition graphics for the launch of the new Porsche
Boxster at the LA Motor Show.
The UltraVu® II 3360, which replaces the previous UltraVu® 3360 EC printer,
delivers 10% to 50% faster throughput in some print modes. Tim Bennett,
President of Image Options states, 'We were a victim of our own success.
Before the increase in capacity provided by our UltraVu® II 3360
installation, we needed to run our printers 24 hours a day, seven days a
week to keep up with demand. As specialists in high-end exhibition graphics,
we produce work for some of the most famous brands in the world. The
installation of our VUTEk® UltraVu® II 3360 EC has meant an increase to our
print capacity and to our capabilities to print "right first time, on time"
for all our clients.'
An example of Image Options utilizing the capabilities of its VUTEk®
printing equipment for a high profile client, was for the Porsche exhibit at
the Los Angeles Motor Show. This was the first opportunity for US customers
to catch a glimpse of the newly revised model of the Porsche Boxster. The
exhibit looked at the various milestones throughout the company's history
providing an overview of key Porsche models produced since 1948. It also
featured the major innovations developed by Porsche and its biggest
victories and championships within motor sport.
Tim continues, 'For every customer, our professionalism and product quality
are of utmost importance. With its 720 dpi resolution, the VUTEk® UltraVu®
II 3360 produces consistently sharp and crisp high quality output. Since our
UltraVu® II 3360 installation, we have been able to concentrate more on our
service to clients, producing what we term as "evidence that demands a
verdict".'
For the Porsche job, the UltraVu® II 3360 was used to print onto
self-adhesive vinyl, for ten 3.66 m tall light boxes suspended from the
ceiling. These were used to help draw attention to the current models on
display. Image Options also printed a dramatic panoramic sepia image of an
open desert road, on self-adhesive vinyl for a 62.48 m2 curved wall.
Over-laying the image, were the names of key Porsche cars featured
throughout the company's history. The wall also included 1.2m x 1.5m light
boxes into it, incorporating dye-cast models of the highlighted Porsche
cars.
The Porsche job also called upon the rigid substrate capability of Image
Options' VUTEk® PressVu® UV 200/600. This was used to print an image of a
Porsche speedometer on an 11.9 m2 screen, made from 6.4 mm Plexiglas. An
optically clear film was applied to reduce glare from the high-powered
spotlights used in the exhibit hall, and to also provide a slight textured
feel. To get the exact effect Porsche desired, Image Options had to adjust
the density of the printed image to match a high-resolution photographic
print.
Tim comments, 'Color matching between machines is very important for jobs
like the Porsche Exhibit. With our VUTEk® printers ColorBurst RIP, through
exact profiling on each machine, we can proof on one printer while running
work on another - with full confidence in the consistency of print quality
and color.
'We believe the previous UltraVu® 3360 EC to be a tremendous machine; in
fact we were the first company in the US to have installed one. Yet, VUTEk®
has managed to refine many aspects of the original machine to produce the
new UltraVu® II 3360. For example, the new low friction kit provides a
smoother motion for the media, further improving print quality. There is
improved access to the print heads; it is easier to tweak the head height
with simple adjustments for enhanced registration. It is also easier to
fine-tune bi-directional and X Y registration, and the machine is generally
quieter. Ultimately, it further improves upon the high print quality of the
original UltraVu® 3360 EC, and thanks to its rapid return feature, is also
much quicker.'
Founded in 1999, Image Options today employs 51 people at its Foothill Ranch
facility. The management team of Tim Bennett and Vice President/CFO Brian
Hite, has over 25 years experience in the exhibition industry - offering a
wide range of services including Lightjet digital photo printing, DuPont®
Artistri direct textile printing, dye sublimation printing, scanning,
finishing, screen printing and fabrication of custom display stands, cases,
fabric tension frames, P.O.P. hanging signs and light boxes. It has produced
work for many blue-chip companies including Lexus, Nike, Aston Martin,
Hewlett Packard, Adidas and Oakley.
Tim concludes, 'For us, when you consider printer performance and
flexibility, VUTEk® has always been the large format market leader. They're
a company that works in partnership with customers to get the best out of
their equipment. They also have a personal touch and are very responsive to
our needs. They know and understand the modern market and the solutions to
all current issues and problems.
'Regardless of cost, we have always invested in what I term to be "best in
class technology." The best equipment will always attract the best staff,
which will in turn attract the best clients. In terms of print quality and
overall production performance, we believe the UltraVu® II 3360 to be the
best solvent roll-to-roll machine on the market.'
