SGIA Imaging Symposium Takes Toronto by Storm - Participants came for questions about implementing digital technology

Fairfax, Virginia - When the SGIA Imaging Symposium - Toronto (June 14-15) concluded yesterday, attendees left with questions. And that's a good thing, said SGIA President Michael Robertson.

"Our primary objective was to have participants leave knowing what questions to ask when implementing wide-format digital imaging," he said, noting that attendees came with varying levels of digital experience, from little-to-no expertise to totally digital shops.

Another objective: Networking. Although tornado warnings kept several participants away from the June 14 welcome reception, they made it to the symposium on June 15 - and overwhelmingly found the event a great way to connect with others in the industry. In addition to the Tuesday evening reception, participants got the chance to mingle during breakfast, breaks and lunch. But educational sessions also brought opportunity for connections.

"We presented case studies on video, then brought in the heads of the profiled companies and opened up the floor to questions and answers," said Marci Kinter, SGIA Vice President, Government Affairs. "There were so many questions, it was hard to bring that session to a close."

Other sessions covered equipment, inks and head technologies; media and finishing; digital graphics applications; digital textile imaging; how to determine the return on investment for digital hardware purchases; and 10 critical questions to ask when implementing digital technology.

"More than 70 people turned out, and combined with the active level of participation, it was clear there's a need for this information in Canada. The Toronto symposium was only the beginning of the opportunities SGIA will be providing Canadian specialty imagers," Robertson said.

The symposium took place with the assistance of five sponsors and two publishing partners: Cascades Resources, Envision Compliance, FLEXcon, ND Graphics, Thieme, Canadian Printer Magazine and Signs Canada.
