PPMA White Paper Clarifies Trends in Finishing
“Finishing Technology In Perspective 2006”
Available at No Charge to Graphics Professionals
Chicago -The Post Print Manufacturers Association (PPMA) has announced a new
white paper report dealing with current trends in finishing technology. Specifically, the
seven page commentary deals with patterns of growth and evolution in demand for
mounting and laminating processes in various graphics businesses.
Based in part on data from three key industry studies, the paper discusses the
impact of newer printing processes such as flatbed inkjet printers and eco-solvent
system rollfed printers. While there is no question that finishing is changing in some
ways, the PPMA report concludes that this particular industry niche is more dynamic
than ever. According to PPMA executive director Al Boese, the loss of some
traditional mounting and laminating business to more durable inksets and direct
printing is offset by other factors.
“Successul graphics producers have come to a new appreciation of the value of
finishing in general,” says Boese. “ For example, finishing professionals understand
that laminating provides far more value to an image than protection. Customers today
expect a turnkey graphic product and not just a print.
The PPMA white paper is available at no charge to photo labs, sign companies,
screen printing, wideformat studios, reprographics shops, in-house graphics
operations and finishing trade shops. The paper may be downloaded in PDF format
