Roland University Vehicle Graphics Workshop Draws Nationwide Attendance

Irvine, CA - Graphics professionals from around the nation took part in the first-ever Roland wRAP Session Vehicle Graphics Workshop, a comprehensive hands-on training course held July 10th and 11th at the Irvine, California headquarters of Roland DGA Corporation.

Roland wide-format inkjet printing and contour cutting technology took center stage as students led by Roland instructors and industry experts designed, printed, contour cut and installed a wide range of vehicle graphics on three Scions xBs provided by Scion’s Los Angeles headquarters. Viewing the hands-on class were three members of L.A.-based West Coast Customs, one of the firms that helped popularize the fast-growing vehicle graphics market via their MTV show, “Pimp My Ride.”

“The popularity of vehicle graphics is exploding and Roland inkjet printers and integrated printer/cutters are ideally suited for not only full and partial wraps, but decals, window film, pinstriping, protective bras and even wheel wraps,” said Brian McLeod, managing director for Roland’s Color Products Division. “The Scion xB is the perfect platform for commercial graphics or personalization. Having three xBs on site enabled us to demonstrate many of these applications throughout the workshop. In addition, we enjoyed the opportunity to provide a highly personalized, hands-on educational experience for everyone. Based on the response from participants, this has been one of our most successful workshops to date.”

“The variety of topics covered has made this workshop a very valuable educational experience,” said Brandon Broussard, production manager for Hulco Sign and Decal, LLC of Scott, Louisiana.

“In particular, I enjoyed the hands on instruction,” said Robert Wiglesworth of Tucson-based Renegade Graphics. “Attending the workshop has helped me develop new skills and given me the confidence to expand my vehicle graphics business.”

“It’s great learning from people who love what they do,” said Tim Johnson of East Cost Trucking based in Portsmouth, Virginia. “The Roland University presenters bring to the workshop both their expertise and enthusiasm for this unique application.”

The Roland wRAP Session presented in-depth techniques for taking a vehicle graphics job from design to installation. Through seminars and interactive small group demonstrations, attendees learned a variety of proven methods for creating and applying digitally printed vehicle graphics. They were also introduced to laminating techniques, advanced production workflows and other tips to help them optimize their investment in Roland digital printing and print/cut technology.

Innovative Print/Cut Technology
Roland's integrated print/cut technology is the foundation for the company’s 30” and 54” VersaCAMMs and the new 54” SOLJET XC-540. These wide-format printer/cutters feature a one-step operation for the production of complex sign and vehicle graphics, printing and then automatically contour cutting images on one device without any steps in between. As a result, they are well suited for long unattended production runs.

Roland print/cut technology enables professionals a wide range of creative choices for personalizing and incorporating marketing messages onto a vehicle. Both laminated and unlaminated graphics can be precision contour cut for custom results.

For larger print-only applications, Roland offers its SOLJET and AdvancedJET inkjet printers ranging in size from 54” to 104.” Ideal for large vehicle and fleet wraps, these printers meet the industry’s highest standards for speed and performance.

All Roland inkjets deliver outstanding durability with ink sets designed for scratch, water, and UV resistance up to 3 years outdoors.

Award-Winning Product Line
Roland inkjets are recognized as the world’s top-selling wide-format printers for the durable graphics market and are acclaimed industry-wide for their superior precision, image quality and reliability.

Roland inkjets have won numerous industry awards including multiple Andre Schellenberg Awards, and repeated victories at the DIMA Digital Printer Shootout and DPI Product of the Year competitions. Other honors include the Seybold Hot Pick award, PEI Cool2 Award, 3D Design Magazine’s Editor’s Choice Award, Digital Output Readers' Choice Awards, Wide-Format Imaging Top Products of 2006 Award, and Graphic Design’s “Fall Forty.”
