SGIA Operating Ratio Study compares company financials

Fairfax, Virginia — SGIA’s 2006 Operating Ratio Study has hit the cyber streets. “With the ORS, you get a snapshot of how your business is doing compared to similar-sized shops,” said SGIA Business Information Associate Alaina Harris “It’s critical information.”

Albert Basse Associates Inc. (Stoughton, Massachusetts) President “Chip” Basse regularly uses the ORS to assess his company’s metrics.

“We use the ORS as a benchmark to compare our operating performance to that of our peers. It has detailed background information to help you get the most accurate information based on the size and sales volume of your company,” he said. The survey — created by SGIA but conducted by an outside firm to assure confidentiality — compiles information about expenses, inventory, cash flow and other financial issues.

“The ORS report provides a standard for the cost of doing business in the specialty imaging industry, and that information is key to making solid business decisions. It should be a regular component of your company’s planning,” Harris said.

The ORS was conducted through the Surveys & Statistics site on SGIA.org from May to July 2006. Reports, available in PDF format, can be purchased online at the e-Store on SGIA.org or by calling 888.385.3588.

SGIA — Supporting the Leaders of the Digital & Screen Printing Community
“Specialty imaging” comprises digital imaging, screen printing and the many other imaging technologies SGIA members use, including those they’ll tap in the future. These are the imaging processes and technologies employed to create new products and to enhance existing products including point-of-purchase displays, signs, advertisements, garments, containers, and vehicles. To make the most of your specialty imaging business, take full advantage of the information on SGIA.org, and experience the specialty graphic imaging industry first-hand at SGIA ’06 (Las Vegas Convention Center, September 2629, 2006).
