LIGHTCongress Announces Panels for 2007 Symposium

National and international lineup of speakers to headline unique lighting forum

Poughkeepsie, NY - LIGHTCongress founder Jeff Johnston today announced the 2007 lineup of panelists and moderators for the symposium that will lead three discussions on the current issues and trends facing the lighting industry. The event is slated for March 13 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City.

LIGHTCongress 2007 will feature three primary panels: Designing with Light, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, and Daylighting and Health. Architects can also earn two Health, Safety and Wellness continuing education credits (CEU) through AIA for attending this event.

"LIGHTCongress truly has a 'dream team' line-up of panelists this year, comprised of some of the world's leading experts in the lighting and energy industries," said Johnston, CEO and president of Greystone Partners, organizers of the event. "This esteemed group will not only discuss and debate the most fundamental issues affecting the lighting industry today, but will also explore the future impact of these issues. Whether you're an editor, architect, lighting designer, commercial engineer, student or consumer, there is something for every interest level and preference."

The Designing with Light panel, moderated by Leni Schwendinger, principal of Lighting Projects Ltd., will explore the possibilities of interior, exterior and architectural lighting solutions as they relate to today's design industry - incorporating products, lamps, systems and trends into the messages. Schwendinger creates illuminated sculptural environments for public spaces all over the world. She is currently on the faculty of Parsons School of Design, Department of Architecture, Interior and Lighting Design.

The panel will include Randy Sabedra, principal of RS Lighting Design in New York and current president of the Illuminating Engineering Society New York Section (IESNY); and international lighting designers Rogier van der Heide of Arup Lighting in Amsterdam/London, and Gustavo Aviles of Light Team in Mexico City.

The Energy Efficiency and Sustainability panel, moderated by Peter Jacobson, lighting specialist for Con Edison, will discuss which steps are being taken to make lighting more energy efficient, the current impact of legislature such as EPAct 2005, sustainable energy solutions and the use of LEDs for energy efficiency. Since 1991, Jacobson has acted as the corporate liaison for Con Edison to the lighting industry and has been the point person on some of the most spectacular lighting installations in New York City.

The panel includes Susan Anderson, energy relations manager for SYLVANIA; Ron Lusk, CEO of Lighting Science Group, Willard L. Warren, principal of Willard L. Warren Associates, Lighting and Energy Consultants and the lighting industry representative on the NYC Electrical Code Committee for the last 35 years; and Bill Attardi, founder of Attardi Marketing, which specializes in the energy management industry.

The Daylighting and Health panel, moderated by Dr. Neall Digert, Ph.D., MIES, vice president of Commercial Market Development for Solatube International, will discuss the affect that light has on human physiology and in enhancing our daily well-being. Products and systems will be brought into the discussion to explore the integration of natural and artificial light - the realities, the cost, the future. Digert, specializes in the design and application of advanced lighting and day lighting systems for commercial building applications.

Panelists include Jim Benya, principal of Benya Lighting Design; Dr. Joan Roberts, professor of Chemistry and chair of the Department of Natural Science at Fordham University, and Matthew Tanteri, principal of Tanteri + Associates and an adjunct professor in the MFA Lighting Program at Parsons School of Design.

There will be a question and answer period at the conclusion of each panel, and each moderator and panelist will be available for interviews throughout the day.

Sponsors include OSRAM SYLVANIA, Architectural Lighting magazine, Solatube and others.
