Astrup Offers New Line of Fire Retardant Awning Fabrics

CLEVELAND, OH ­ The Astrup Company is now a source for Glen Raven’s new Firesist® HUV, a line of fire retardant fabrics for awning applications. Available in 17 colors, Firesist HUV is an improved and significantly stronger offering than an older product, Sunbrella Firesist, that is now discontinued.

Firesist HUV is woven using state-of-the-art fibers engineered to be fire retardant. Since fire protection is an inherent attribute of the fabric, it will not leach or wash out during the life of the fabric. Manufactured through Glen Raven’s Highly Ultra Violet (HUV) resistant coloration process, Firesist HUV offers excellent depth of color, consistent hue and UV resistance. Additionally, the fabric has been texturized for a low luster, natural canvas look.

Firesist HUV also has a translucent matte coating on the under side of the fabric that dramatically increases hydrostatic resistance, eliminates fraying of cut edges, improves abrasion resistance and enhances sewing or welding. The fabric’s finish gives it superior stain and water resistance. With proper awning pitch and fabrication, water beads and runs off the fabric.

The strength of Firesist HUV makes it appropriate for larger commercial projects. Enhanced dimensional stability keeps Firesist HUV taut on awning frames through a range of climatic conditions ensuring that awning projects maintain a smooth look regardless of temperature and humidity.

Backed by a five-year warranty, Firesist HUV is 9.5 ounces per square yard, 60 inches wide and meets the following flame retardant requirements: California State Fire Marshall Title 19, Section 1237, Test Procedure #801; NFPA 701-99 Test Method 2; CPAI-84: Tent walls and roof; and UFAC Upholstered Furniture Class 1.
