SEGD Annual Conference: Interplay
Washington, DC The 2008 Annual Conference + Expo of the Society for Environmental Graphic
Design (SEGD) addresses the interplay of environmental graphic design and the forces that inspire
creativity. The event features speakers reflecting on Interplay: Collaboration, Synergy, and
Delight and takes place May 28-31, 2008, in Austin, Texas.
Ronald Shakespear of Diseño Shakespear in Argentina, will be inducted as the 2008 SEGD Fellow
at a luncheon honoring him and the recipients of other SEGD awards. Thirty-eight outstand-
ing designs will receive 2008 SEGD Design Awards, which recognize excellence in environmental
graphic design.
Pre-Conference Workshops on Documentation and the Design Process and The Complete ADA will
run concurrently with Pre-Conference Tours of the Moore/Andersson Compound, the Norman Bel
Geddes Theatre, and East Austin galleries.
General Session speakers will include:
Austin design shaman Marc English
Terri Ducay, former head of design strategy for Cheskin
Mark Rolston, founder of frog design’s digital media group
Adam Greenfield, author of Everywhere: The Dawning Age of Ubiquitous Computing
Urban boutique hotelier Liz Lambert
Tech Sessions will include:
Green Digital Printing and Dynamic Design
Creating a Public Bid Package
Light and Legibility
Selecting Materials for Cost Savings
Workshops on Wheels will feature LEED Gold-Certified Austin City Hall, the Harry Ransom Center,
UT-Austin, and the Long Center for the Performing Arts.
The Conference also features an Expo on Friday, May 30, where more than 80 exhibitors will fea-
ture leading-edge products, materials, and services for specialty sign and exhibit design.
