PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 28, 2008

viscom frankfurt 2008 expands Digital Signage segment

Whether it is displayed in public areas, serves as a routing and information system, as a digital poster or interactive sales assistant: digital signage is a marketing instrument that will hold a firm position next to the conventional media in future. Current practice both in retailing and in public areas shows that static and dynamic media are increasingly used to complement each other. Starting with viscom 2007, this has become one of the fair’s core segments. In addition to the two Digital Signage Days and the Best Practice Award in the Digital Signage segment, there has also been steady growth in this segment on the exhibition side of the fair.

After the great success of the first Digital Signage Days at the 2007 viscom in Düsseldorf, the offer for visitors will be doubled this year. At viscom frankfurt 2008 which will be staged from 30 October to 1 November 2008 at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre, there will be two Digital Signage Days. Numerous lectures and practical examples will give an overview of this new exhibition segment at viscom and provide comprehensive information as a basis for future business decisions: these will cover the essentials of content design and planning, information on application and implementation right through to perception measurement. The first day on 30 October will be the “Decision-makers’ Day“, dealing with fundamental issues related to the topic of Digital Signage. 31 October will be “Content Day“: content production is the challenge in digital signage. This is still the area where the need for clarification and information for customers, designers as well as suppliers of advertis ing space is greatest. The target groups at this event are “brand owners“, agencies, designers and media planners.

Pat Hellberg, President of Kaicon Consulting (Portland/USA) and former Director of Nike Brand Design Media could be enlisted as the key note speaker. In the afternoon of the second day of the fair, he will host the creative “Content“. In cooperation with leading agencies from the UK, Germany, Spain and France, practical examples and working methods will be presented. In addition GfK, a association for market research with worldwide operations and headquarters in Nuremberg, will also be at viscom frankfurt, presenting an overview of the “Display Market in Germany“. “The Digital Signage segment is increasingly gaining in importance,“ explains viscom Director Petra Lassahn. ”viscom 2007 has shown that there is considerable need to catch up on the latest know-how: with the two Digital Signage Days we therefore cater to the lively interest expressed by visitors to learn about digital signage applications.“ The Digital Signage Days do not only focus on applications in the retail a nd advertising segments, however; they also cover the segments of information and routing systems.

Best Practice Award the original
The Best Practice Award in the Digital Signage segment will also be presented at viscom frankfurt 2008 for the second time: the three categories in which manufacturers, service providers and retail companies, agencies and integrators can enter their products are Retail Signage digital signage applications in the retail sector; Information Signage digital signage applications showing information on public displays and Routing digital signage applications as routing systems in public areas. The products will always be entered by both client and supplier. All products entered will be on display during the entire fair at a special area (Hall 3.0, Stand H32).

viscom frankfurt will take place as this year’s International Trade Fair for Visual Communication from 30 October to 1 November in Hall 3.0 of the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre. The organisers, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, expect about 240 international exhibitors and 7,500 visitors from 30 countries.
